FAQ about our Spectrum Run:
Q: What is a Spectrum Run?
A: A timed 5K Run and Fun Walk with powder stations and a water station along the route. Colorful powder is doused on participants who wish to be doused as they pass by .
Q: How is the color applied?
A: You will see smiling faces along the course whose main goal is to douse you in colorful powder to ensure that you look like you ran through a beautiful rainbow by the time you cross the finish line.
Q: What if I don't want the powder?
A: Simply cross your arms like an X in front of you and our happy powder pushers will avoid you as best they can.
Q: Is the powder safe?
A: The health and safety of our participants and our volunteers has always been at the forefront of our minds and actions. The color powder used at The Spectrum Run event is all certified non-toxic and free of any heavy metals. Our bright colors are a combination of cornstarch, baking soda, and FD&C dyes. As with any substance, you want to keep it out of your eyes and our certified color throwers make sure to aim low as you pass by. Some Runners and Walkers opt to wear glasses or goggles for their eyes and use a bandana or dust mask for their mouths.
Q: What should I wear?
A: If you register prior to Sept. 7, you will receive a white run t-shirt to wear during the race. Extra shirts will be available to purchase at the run-sizes limited. Many people wear tutus to add to the fun. Sunglasses or goggles are suggested and a bandana or dust mask if you wish.
Q: Does the powder wash off?
A: Yes! We suggest you shake as much off as you can before you depart and cover the seats of your vehicle with beach towels for the ride home, though any powder that comes off should be easily vacuumed up. A quick shower and you should be back to your original color.
Q: What if I don't want the color to wash out of my shirt?
A: If you would like to preserve the rainbow on your shirt, it is suggested you refrain from shaking off the powder, turn it inside out, douse it with vinegar, and iron it. Once it's dry, you can wash it.
